Bangkok, May 26 (EFE).— Vietnamese low-cost carrier VietJet Air signed an agreement on Monday with European aerospace giant Airbus to purchase 20 A330-900neo wide-body aircraft, coinciding with the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Hanoi as part of his Southeast Asia tour.
VietJet President Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao signed the deal in the Vietnamese capital with Airbus International President Wouter van Wersch, who is accompanying Macron to promote ’s Indo-Pacific strategy and seek trade and energy partnerships.
The g ceremony was witnessed by Macron and Vietnamese President Luong Cuong.
According to an Airbus statement, the order s VietJet’s long-term plan to expand its international footprint over the next decade.
The acquisition of the 20 A330-900neos will enable VietJet to strengthen its presence on high-capacity routes across the Asia-Pacific, a region where enger numbers are projected to grow by 7.9 percent in 2025, the fastest growth globally, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
VietJet currently operates an all-Airbus fleet of 115 single-aisle A320 Family aircraft, with 96 more on order, and seven A330-300s.

This latest order follows a previous purchase of 20 A330-900neos equipped with next-generation Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines and a non-stop range of 7,200 nautical miles (13,300 km).
Macron, accompanied by his wife Brigitte Macron, is on a Southeast Asian tour that will also take him to Indonesia and Singapore. EFE
